DIY Finger Paint
July 23, 2018
Did you join us at Library Park for storytime last week?
We had so much fun with these child safe finger paints!!!!!
How did we make them?
Cornstarch, food coloring and water....that's it!
-Put 4 tablespoons of cornstarch in a heatproof bowl.
-Mix in water slowly. You want just enough water to be able to mix the cornstarch into a thin gel. Stir to get lumps out.
-Have an adult boil 1 cup of water.
-Slowly mix the boiling water into the cornstarch bowl (an adult needs to do this because of the heat). You will notice it turns somewhat clear and thickens. Stir until its well mixed.
-You can now divide this mixture up and add food coloring as you would like. Make sure it cools off before letting your child explore the fun texture.
-If you would like to store the paint, place in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will last for several days like this.
We LOVE that these paints have great color and an interesting consistency!!!! Try using fingers or Q-tips to paint with. Your child can paint pictures or words. They also may enjoy just squeezing the paint and playing with it. Painting and playing both help to strengthen their hand muscles!
